About the Group – Written by Colin Taverner
1st Collingham Kingfishers Scout Group is an active Scout Association Scout Group based in the village of Collingham, 2 miles from Wetherby in the north-eastern corner of West Yorkshire. The Group has approximately 60 young people (boys and girls) participating in a dynamic and adventurous programme across a Beaver Colony (6-8 yrs), Cub Pack (8-10½ yrs) and newly formed Scout Troop (10½-14 yrs). Wetherby whalers Explorer Scout unit (14-18 yrs) also meet in the hut.
The Scout Group operates from a dedicated Scout Hut, which is owned by the Scout Group and located on land in the centre of the village rented from Collingham & Linton Parish Council. The Scout Hut is also used by the 1st Collingham Guide Group which has another 60 members.

The Scout Hut was constructed by a group of local volunteers and opened in November 1978. Whilst it has been well maintained over the last 39 years, is largely unchanged since that time, with many of the original fittings still present.
To coincide with the 40th anniversary of the construction of the Scout Hut, 1st Collingham Kingfishers Scout Group would like to refurbish the Hut to bring its facilities up to date for the use of the Scout and Guide Groups and make it a more attractive facility for use by other sections of the community, which in turn will generate much needed income to support maintenance of the Hut and investment in equipment for the Scout Group’s activities and programme. Given the Hut’s location in the centre of the village, we hope it can genuinely become a hub for community activities and life, if we can make it a more attractive facility.
