District Social Media

Let’s be honest, Roz Kilvington left some big shoes to fill as our “Queen of Social Media” when she went to Oz, but I sure am going to give it my best shot and hope I do her legacy proud. Roz put her own effervescent personality into every single post she created, amassed a following of Leaders and parents alike, kept us updated with all the happenings of District, and captured the very essence of our District identity. Even though I’ve been working in the media industry for almost 15 years I’ll be the first to admit that Roz is a very tough act to follow, and she has posed me quite a challenge here.

Media Managers old & new

With the Scout Association rebrand earlier this year I spoke with the DC about our media starting afresh, and spoke to as many Leaders as I could about how they would like to see our media evolve. The general consensus was that Facebook needed to become centralised, and totally on point with information, while combining the traditional and modern Scouting ethos – piece of cake! (insert worried face here) Months of research turned into months of development, and now I can proudly unveil our new look Facebook Page, and Leaders Group to you all. It is still in its fledgling stages, but Scouts Honour, it’s all coming together.

You can follow our Facebook Page HERE

For our Leaders, Adult Volunteers, and Young Leaders, you can find our group HERE You will need to answer a security question for approval to join – safeguarding and whatnot, although between us Jon Bliss & I  probably know you all. Don’t be shy about adding other Leaders; the more, the merrier!

For those of you who don’t use Facebook, fear not! This is just the first many media changes to come.

Before I sign off I’d like to say a huge thank you to Mick, Pete, and the District Exec for having enough faith in my abilities to represent the public face of Scouting in Wetherby.

Until next time!

Kerry “Raksha” Greenwood – District Media Manager
