1st Thorner and Scarcroft Scout Group is looking for a passionate and motivated individual (or small team) to take on the role of Group Lead Volunteer—a key leadership position at the heart of local Scouting.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of Scouting in Wetherby and make a lasting difference to young people in our community.


About the Role

The Group Lead Volunteer is a team leader and volunteer manager, responsible for supporting and guiding adult volunteers to ensure the Scout Group runs effectively and delivers high-quality Scouting.

You’ll work with a team of dedicated volunteers to create a positive, inclusive, and inspiring environment where young people can develop skills for life.


What You’ll Do

As Group Lead Volunteer, you will:

  • Lead, support and inspire a team of adult volunteers across all sections
  • Help ensure the Group delivers a safe, inclusive and high-quality programme for young people
  • Provide direction and strategic leadership to help the Group grow and thrive
  • Support recruitment, development and retention of volunteers
  • Work closely with the District team and other local Scout Groups
  • Ensure compliance with safety, safeguarding and training requirements

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to have been a Scout before—we’re looking for someone who is:

  • A strong communicator who can inspire and motivate others
  • Organised and able to think strategically
  • Passionate about supporting young people and volunteers
  • Able to lead a team and build positive relationships
  • Enthusiastic, approachable and community-minded

This role can also be shared between 2–3 people, making it flexible and manageable.
